Zooey Deschanel Asks “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?”

Los Angeles Times Celebration Of Food & Wine

The sometimes wacky and often whimsical leading lady in ”Elf,” Zooey Deschanel famously stated, “The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.”  These are words that she lives by, and they don’t just apply to Christmas.  She and her longtime friend and “500 Days of Summer”  co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt sing, “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?”

“What Are You Doing New Years Eve” was originally recorded in 1963 by jazz singer Nancy Wilson as the B-side to “All I Want for Christmas.”  This lounge standard has been forgotten over the years, however at least two singers have been paying attention and pay tribute to the New Years song written almost 50 years ago.

In addition to her acting career, Zooey Deschanel also has a fairly notable music career in the duo She & Him.  While she isn’t accompanied by She & Him’s M. Ward on this tune, her “500 Days of Summer” co-star and forever friend Joseph Gordon-Levitt backs her on guitar.

This cover comes after a very prominent Christmas album from She & Him.  Don’t miss this video…
