“Look Again”…that was the theme of the Sundance Film Festival 2012. See all the films that screened here….@ Sundance 2012. The winners were just announced Saturday night. Here’s [photogallerylink id=92835 align=left]my friend June and I in front of the screen at the Eccles Theater, where many premieres are held..
My husband skiied, it’s why he goes to Utah. We’ve been going to Sundance in Park City for the last 12 years, and we both enjoy the things we love, snow and movies!
My oldest friend June Robins and I saw movies, usually 3 a day! You see, there are 160 films screening, and you have to pick 12 to 15 you can see in 5 days from 8 categories! It tough to choose, but starting in early December, I read the guide and reviews of each film and documentary and choose very carefully. There are many pics here of the screenings and the Q&A on stage afterward, which is what Sundance is all about. Here’s the overview of the pictures I took and some of the movies we saw:
Here’s Festival Headquarters is at the Marriott Hotel, where I picked up my tickets, where many stars and filmmakers stay. I had a short conversation in the lobby here with Rory Kennedy, the daughter of Robert and Ethel, who is now a successful documentary filmmaker. She premiered the documentary “Ethel”, about her mother who raised 11 kids after her father Robert Kennedy was shot in 1968. It was very well done, and Ethel Kennedy was there! You will be able to see this doc on HBO very soon…don’t miss it. It’s entertaining and informative, and if you grew up with the Kennedys, I think you’ll love it. A very exciting premiere, for sure.
Here are pics in my gallery of the digital images that move and groove on the screen before all movies start. I loved the logo this year…”Look Again”.
The first film I saw was from Brazil, it was called “Father’s Chair”, which starred the ‘George Clooney” of South America. Here is a pic of the cast and director at the Q&A after the screening. Read about it at Sundance 2012.
The next shot is of Rory Kennedy at the Library Theater, it’s a little bit bright. She was delightful, this youngest filmmaker daughter of Ethel and Robert, born after her father was murdered in 1968. She honors her Mom with “Ethel”.
Next is the cast of a funny futuristic film, “Robot and Frank”, starring Susan Sarandon, Frank Langella & Liv Tyler(pictured). It was bought and will be distributed. It’s a cute story about a funny old man and his robot friend.
Then there’s pics of June and I at the Spur Bar on Main Street at a party thrown by Philly/Hollywood lawyer Justin Wineburgh. Fun time. Thanks Justin! It snowed about 15 inches that Saturday, Jan 21st!
The next day before more screenings we went to the Philadelphia Industry Lounge, hosted by Nicole Cashman of Cashman and Associates in Philadelphia. Our town is well represented thanks to Nicole and her girls. By the way, there are lots of people from Philly in Park City during Sundance. I ran into them very day.
Next..we partied at The Lift, and it was an exclusive invitation we managed to get. Lots of swag and stars. I saw Emily Blunt, Elijah Wood, David Duchovny, Vera Farmiga, Kirsten Dunst walking around and hanging out. There was a DJ and it was a happening Sundance scene.
The next pics are at the screenings, and include the Q&A’s afterwards. That’s 70′s model Beverly Johnson at the mic after the doc “About Face”, about the modeling industry back in the 70′s…it featured Christie Brinkley, Carol Alt, Jerry Hall, Cheryl Tiegs, so many more. It will be on HBO.
The cast of “LUV” is here, the all star cast is on stage. Danny Glover, Common (so hot), Dennis Haysbert, Charles S Dutton, they are all in the pics. The movie was intense..a gangter film with a lot of love.
French actress and writer Julie Delpy wrote and starred in a very funny film called “2 Days in New York”, also starring the very talented Chris Rock. Maybe you saw “2 Days in Paris”, which Delpy wrote earlier. “2 Days in New York” was very amusing and enjoyable…it was bought and will be out in theaters in a few months. There are many pics of the cast here, including Chris Rock sitting in front of me at the Eccles Theater.
“Smashed” was a moving story of a young couple with drinking problems. She gets sober, he doesn’t. Boy, was this film good. It also stars Octavia Spencer of “The Help”. She’s nominated for an Oscar, and has already won several acting awards. Here I am in front of the Egyptian Theater on Main Street with the male lead Aaron Paul..you may know him from the AMC show “Breaking Bad”.
I met Edward James Olmos before we screened “Filly Brown”, the film he produced and stars in. Filly is a young girl (look out for Gina Rodriguez) who’s a good kid, a talented rapper…with a mom in jail. It was a riveting story. Mr. Olmos was so gracious and posed with us before the film. (You must remember him from “Miami Vice”!)
My last film was “The Last Elvis” and Argentinian drama about an Elvis impersonator. Wow. Yes, Elvis impersonators exist all over the world! Here’s the director and one of the stars on stage. (ps I love subtitiles!)
Finally, there are a few shots of the fabulous Wasatch Mountain range in Utah, as we drive from Park City back to Salt Lake City to the airport.
I can hardly wait for Sundance 2013. Once again, to read about what I saw in more detail, and the winners, go to the website. Sundance 2012
