MORENO 3-8-13

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WOGL) – You may remember Rita Moreno from such classic movies as West Side Story (opposite Natalie Wood and for which she won Oscar for best supporting actor), Singin’ In The Rain, The King and I or you may remember her from her singing and acting work on Sesame Street. Y

You can now add author to her list of job titles. Her new book, Rita Moreno: A Memoir, is in stores now.

She is the only Hispanic, and one of the few performers, to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony, and was the second Puerto Rican to win an Academy Award.

Even with all her awards she remains humble.

She told the Breakfast Club that, “I had no idea that “West Side Story” would become as big as it did.”

A seasoned singer and dancer, Moreno delivered a superb performance that completely overshadowed the Maria of the movie, the non-singer (and non-Hispanic) Natalie Wood, the only movie star in the ensemble cast.

Rita’s off-screen love affairs were just as captivating as her on-screen love affairs.

Moreno dated quite a few of Hollywood’s elite. She’s dated Dennis Hopper, Marlon Brando and had a short-lived love affair with the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis. She says, “Elvis is just a simple country boy at heart.”
