Today Doris Day celebrates her 90th birthday. The legendary actress and singer is revered as the classic All American girl.
Day starred in a number of iconic films that are still quite relevant to this day. Some of her most well known pictures include ‘Calamity Jane,’ ‘Love Me or Leave Me,’ and ‘Pillow Talk,’ which gained her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress and a Golden Globe win.
In 1956, Day blended her two talents together in the film ‘The Man Who Knew Too Much.’ The movie teamed her up with James Stewart.
Day recorded the song ‘Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be),’ for the film, which took home an Oscar that year for Best Song.
Day was a true success when it came to music and the big screen. She had recorded a number of hit songs and proved that her presence was a clear catalyst to success in the movie world.
Day had little interest in getting into television but due to dealings conducted by her late husband and manager, Marty Melcher, Day was forced to foray into television and starred in a sitcom series, ‘The Doris Day Show,’ which ran from 1968-1973. Day took home a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series in 1969.
Day continued on as a television personality until 1986 in various shows and specials.
Despite the happy persona typically depicted by Day on screen, she faced her number of challenges off the screen for sure. She always found a way to persevere however and whether it was movies, music or television, Day always found her way to the top.
Today we wish a Happy 90th Birthday to Doris Day.
