Eight Great Songs To Keep You Warm This Winter

By: Renee Grant

The snow flakes have finally come to Philly, and with them, the whipping winds. It’s been cold and gloomy these past few weeks no doubt, and we’re all looking to warmer weather these days. Perfect time to sign up for our Vacation-A-Day Giveaway, no?

Now that the season has settled in, why not build a playlist of awesome warm weather music to keep you upbeat as we wait for spring to show up? Here are eight songs to get you started on your way to warming up… and be sure to add your favorites to the list in the comments, or share your picks with us on our Facebook and Twitter pages!

  • Good Vibrations – The Beach Boys (1964)

The group made us all long for surfing and lying around… perfect for when the beach calls but the snow says no.

  • Summer in the City – the Lovin’ Spooful (1966)

“Hot town, summer in the city…” ‘Nuff said!

  • Summer Breeze – Seals and Crofts (1972)

Couldn’t we all use a little summer breeze? This tune is perfect for airy BBQ’s and winter BBQ’s too!

  • Cruel Summer – Bananarama (1983)

Aren’t all summers kinda cruel? They all leave way too soon. Get ahead of it by playing this ditty for the next few weeks.

  • Lovely Day – Bill Withers (1977)

It’s gonna be a lovely day! This is one of those songs that lasts not only through the four seasons, but through theyears that it’s been a happy dance staple.

  • Dancing in the Street – Martha and the Vandellas (1964)

Any song that mentions our home town is pretty much perfect, right? Plus David Bowie and Mick Jagger did a remake. So that’s always awesome!

  • The Boys of Summer – Don Henley (1984)

Ahhhh… one of the greatest summer songs of all time. If you don’t have a direct memory of this tune, you have lived vicariously through someone else’s… “I never will forget those nights.

I wonder if it was a dream.” So do we…

  • Summertime – DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (1991)

It isn’t really summer in Philly until someone cruises down your block playing this song. We aren’t far away from summer. Let’s just keep repeating it until it’s true.
