New Music From Prince’s Vault To Be Released

By: Renee Grant

The release of the first new music from Prince since his death last April is coming this summer, along with previously unreleased concert films.

Warner Bros. has announced that they will be remastering Purple Rain, as well as two new albums of songs that were previously held in the music vault at Paisley Park. They will also be releasing two new concert films, all due out on June 9th.

“When we make any of Prince’s music available to fans – from the hits to unreleased gems – we are committed to upholding Prince’s high creative standards and we know fans will be thrilled when they hear these albums and see these films,” the company says via press release.

The news comes on the heels of The Purple One’s music returning to streaming services such as Spotify. For almost the last two years, Prince’s hits have been available to stream via TIDAL only, but a lawsuit filed by the estate last year alleged the deal only applied to Prince’s last studio album, HitNRun Phase One.

His Purple Rain-era band, The Revolution, has also recently announced a reunion tour set for April of this year, beginning with a 3-day celebration at Paisley Park marking the anniversary of the icon’s passing, running from April 20th trough 23rd. Four dates around the country will follow in Chicago, Washington, D.C., New York and Philadelphia at the TLA on South Street.
