One of the world’s most prolific artists is at it again. Banksy, the UK creator behind 2015’s Dismaland installation, has returned with a 9-room hotel-themed installation called The Walled Off Hotel. The exhibit is located in Bethlehem, Israel.
Several other artists collaborated with Banksy to create the rooms in the hotel, each of which has a different theme and design. Banksy, Sami Musa, and Dominique Petrin have all customized guest rooms with more to follow.
According to the website, “the hotel boasts floor to ceiling views of graffiti-strewn concrete from almost every room. And for the exhibitionists amongst you – many are within range of the army watchtower. All scenic rooms are ensuite and equipped with wifi, fridge, radio, personal safe and air conditioning.”
The hotel opens to the public on March 11, and you can actually stay in the rooms. Accommodations also feature a player piano in the lobby which gives “recitals” every night. The inaugural performance was a virtual concert from Elton John, who controlled the keys on the piano remotely and sang via video. You can check out that performance below.
Other artists set to make appearances at the virtual piano bar are 3D from Massive Attack (who also performed at the Dismaland installation), Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more.
The website features photos of the installation, which is both beautiful and meant to make a statement; the space was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, a 1917 document that is credited by many as a contributor the Arab-Israeli conflict.
