As the first year since the death of music and entertainment icon Prince approaches, it has been announced that his former backing band the New Power Generation will be co-headlining at Hyde Park with rocker Phil Collins as he closes out his run of summer dates at the festival this June.
The band has announced a string of dates this spring, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the Purple One’s passing.
The British Summer Time at Hyde Park performance will see the band playing songs spanning the length of Prince’s career.
“It’s celebrating Prince; the fan is key,” Hayes says. “That’s the music they want to hear. It was a big family and the family has a lot of kids in it. The songs are the kids and we do them in service of the fans,” musical director Morris Hayes says of the planned shows.
Also on the bill for Hyde Park are K-Ci & The Sunshine Band, Blondie, and Mike + The Mechanics, who will play alongside Chas and Dave and Cats in Space. For more info, visit the concert website.
