Katherine Jackson Must Testify In Elder Abuse Case

By: Renee Grant

A judge has ruled that Katherine Jackson must testify in her current elder abuse case. The Jackson family matriarch filed charges against her nephew Trent, alleging that he has been “an abusive con man”, stealing from her, emotionally abusing her, and trying to keep her away from other members of her family.

In February, Katherine obtained a restraining order against her nephew who is denying the allegations. Trent says the case is an effort by Katherine’s son Jermaine Jackson to wrest control of Michael Jackson‘s estate from their 86-year-old mother. Trent, who is related to the family by marriage, has said that he was appointed by Michael to look after Katherine.

Trent also questions whether Katherine wrote the complaint herself and if she was aware of what was going on in the case as she has been visiting her daughter Janet Jackson in London since the birth of her grandson. Trent asked that the case either be dropped or that Katherine show up in person to speak on the case.

On Tuesday, March 28th, Judge Rolf Treu issued a ruling that Katherine testify in court, stating that he would not accept a sworn statement from her.

However, Katherine’s lawyer Joy Bass says the ruling may not be enough to convince her to return stateside. Bass points out that Katherine is currently under a doctor’s care in London and that she shouldn’t be forced to risk her health to return for testimony in the case.
