Five Places To Celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day In Philly

By: Renee Grant

Today, April 12th, is National Grilled Cheese Day! The gooey, delicious sandwiches are not only an after-school staple but has been elevated to gourmet status with the addition of unusual ingredients and flavor combinations.

A recent poll conducted by NationalToday.com, the site known for curating and commemorating quirky holidays, asked 1,000 Americans all about the classic comfort food and got some interesting results. For starters, 87% of Americans enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches. In fact, grilled cheese sandwiches are only topped by pizza as America’s favorite cheesy food (although we’re sure Philadelphians would argue that cheesesteaks are at the top of our list).

Although cheddar is the overwhelming cheese of choice is cheddar at 68%, American is a close second with 60% of the vote. Yellow cheese is as good as gold, much preferred to white cheeses. rounding out the top 5 favorite grilled cheese sandwiches were Swiss at number 3 with 59%, Provolone at number 4 with 56% of the vote and Pepper Jack at number 5 with 47% of the votes.

If you’re hungry, and you want to celebrate this tasty day, below are five local places to get a great grilled cheese sandwich. Happy eating!

  • Meltkraft – 51 N 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA

  • Milkhouse – 1617 John F Kennedy Blvd, Philadelphia, PA

a fall classic is back: 3 cheese grilled cheese, tomato lager soup. #vegetarian
