98.1 WOGL Celebrates Record Store Day!

By: Renee Grant

For the past decade, Record Store Day has been celebrating the vinyl medium. Each year, record stores all over the world host events meant to introduce customers to the joy of great music and the warm, classic crackle of records. On April 22nd, awesome tunes will be front and center.

This year, marking the tenth anniversary of the day, there are special releases coming from some of our favorite artists including the Beatles, David Bowie, The Cars, Cheap Trick, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Madonna, Stevie Nicks, Prince, Sting, and many more. How about a 45 of Toto’s Africa, shaped like… Africa? You can find it on Record Store Day!

Our own on-air talent wanted to share some of their memories with you, from their favorite record stores to the first albums they ever owned. Do they shop at your favorite spots? Did you own the same records? Read on to find out.

I’d like to travel to downtown Lancaster and visit Stan’s Record Bar. Stan’s has been a fixture on Prince Street for decades.

What was the first record you owned?
The first record I specifically remember owning was on the Apple Records label. It was “Get Back” and “Don’t Let Me Down” from The Beatles. I think the green apple label, with one side sliced open added to my being able to remember it all these years later.

I’m looking forward to the re-release of The Beatles double A side single “Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane” which will be released on 45 Saturday.
