WATCH: Jack White & Elton John Team Up For ‘American Epic’ Documentary

By: Renee Grant

A three-part documentary detailing an iconic moment in American music history will see Elton John and Jack White in starring roles.

The series, entitled American Epic, will detail the Twenties-era recording revolution where record companies traveled across America with the first electrical recording rig in search of undiscovered talent.

While the original rigs are no longer useable, audio engineer Nicholas Bergh reassembled one for use in the documentary from original parts. His rig was used to record music for the accompanying feature-length film, The American Epic Sessions. That piece will include performances from Beck, Alabama Shakes, and Willie Nelson.

See a preview for American Epic below.

The doc debuted at the Sundance film festival will premiere on PBS on May 16th, 23rd, and 30th. The American Epic Sessions will air June 6th on PBS. On May 12, the soundtrack will be released via Legacy Recordings, Columbia and Jack White’s record label Third Man Records.

An accompanying book will be released on May 2nd with behind-the-scenes stories and interviews with artists who witnessed the first recordings, along with never-before-seen photos and artwork.
