Live Nation Concerts To Livestream Via Twitter

By: Renee Grant

Twitter has been snapping up the rights to stream some pretty major events over the past few years. MLB games already stream on the social network once a week, and just recently BuzzFeed announced they would launch a morning show on the platform. Now, at a conference early this week, Twitter Marketing announced they will exclusively stream several Live Nation concerts in the near future. More shows will come to the lineup in the future.

Artists that will have their performances live on the network so far include Train, Portugal. the Man, August Alsina, and Marian Hill. Zac Brown Band will be the inaugural performance, streaming on May 13th.

The move makes sense for Twitter, a place known for real-time talk during TV shows and televised sporting events. Users often express collective shock over show plots, and collective cheers and jeers during award shows.

Music has always been one of the most Tweeted about topics on the platform, and now fans around the world will be able to experience concerts live on the same platform where they talk about what’s happening in music,” Twitter COO Anthony Noto tells Tech Crunch.

Twitter says it has 200 premium live video partnerships, so it seems they are looking to truly compete with other streaming services already in the growing market. As more people seek to “cut the cord,” meaning they are looking to leave traditional cable companies behind, Twitter could rise to become one of the main places for live content.
