We may not have to wait much longer for the new album from Nile Rodgers and Chic. The iconic musician spoke to NME at yesterday’s Ivor Novello Awards in London and revealed that some pretty big cameos will be featured on the album.
The LP, titled It’s About Time, is the band’s first new album in 25 years.
“I think the most important thing is my Chic album,” Rodgers says. “I’ll have that finished in a couple of weeks. I played it for the record company yesterday, and they’re really happy – it was very well received. I just cut god knows how many songs with Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars – they popped by the studio and we just started jamming and writing stuff.”
Rodgers also says he’s written new music for other artists. “I just wrote a song for Debbie Harry,” he says. “I just wrote a song for Hailee Steinfeld which is killer!”
Rodgers will take the stage at Glastonbury this summer, and he hopes to rock out with Ed Sheeran while he’s there, revealing Sheeran’s ‘÷‘ is his current favorite album.
“We’re closing Glastonbury with my boy Ed Sheeran whose album is my favorite album right now,” he says. “If he asks me to play, I’ll play.”
