Prince’s Siblings Finally Named Rightful Heirs To His Estate

By: Renee Grant

It’s been over a year since the passing of Prince Rodgers Nelson, and it hasn’t been easy to sort out his massive estate. Since Prince left no will, dividing his assets has proved to be a daunting task. People from allĀ over the country have claimed to be relatives of the late icon, and while many DNA tests have been taken, no heirs have been proven to be his besides his siblings.

Now, after the lengthy court battles, at least one battle in the war has been won by his family. His six siblings have finally been named as the only heirs to Prince’s estate.

His sister Tyka Nelson and five half-siblings, Sharon Nelson, Norrine Nelson, John R. Nelson, Omarr Baker, and Alfred Jackson are now able to take control of his assets, currently valued at $200 million.

While some of the denied claimants are still appealing their rulings, Carver County District Judge Kevin Eide was forced to delay a final ruling until those cases were resolved. However, Prince’s remaining family filed a motion to have the delay reconsidered, arguing that continued deferment is holding up the administration of his estate’s affairs. Judge Eide considered the motion and ruled in their favor on Friday, May 19th.

The ruling also states that his heirs cannot make any transactions on Prince’s assets without a formal court order, and they cannot distribute anything that negatively impacts claims from those with pending appeals.
