Gillian Anderson Channels David Bowie In New ‘American Gods’ Clip

By: Renee Grant

There have been many tributes to the amazing David Bowie since his passing in 2016. From statues to award show performances by his famous peers, it’s clear his musical influence has been far-reaching.

Now, STARZ breakout hit show American Gods has paid tribute to Ziggy Stardust in an amazing way. Gillian Anderson, whom we first fell in love with as the stoic and steadfast FBI agent Dana Scully on the X-Files, embodies Bowie in an upcoming episode of the show, and her portrayal has created quite a buzz.

American Gods is a television series based on a book of the same name by Neil Gaiman, originally published in 2001. The novel focuses on a character called Shadow Moon, a man serving three years in prison. When Moon receives an early release due to the death of his beloved wife, he befriends a man named Wednesday on a flight home and is offered a job. While on the surface he’s simply a man in need of a bodyguard, Wednesday is, in fact, the god Odin, crisscrossing America to gather other gods who have become a part of regular American life. He hopes to unite them in order to confront the new gods, Media and Technical Boy, who are becoming stronger.

Playing the role of Media is Anderson, who has already portrayed the characters of Lucille Ball‘s Lucy and Marilyn Monroe as the public face of the new gods. In the upcoming episode titled Lemon Scented You, Anderson takes on the role of Bowie. She does a pretty masterful job in the photo below.

The new episode of American Gods airs on STARZ this Sunday, May 28th.
