It may not be the year 2062 yet, but The Jetsons are making a comeback!
A reboot of the 1962 cartoon is coming to ABC, this time in a multi-camera, live-action version, executive produced by Robert Zemeckis.
Gary Janetti will pen the script, having been a part of other very successful shows like Will & Grace and Family Guy. The new version will be based on the classic cartoon, based 100 years in the future, just as the original was.
The Jetsons served as a counterpoint to The Flintstones, which was about a prehistoric family living in the stone age.
The show lands on a network already popular for its family shows, including Modern Family, The Goldbergs, Fresh Off the Boat, and more. The network also has plans for a limited-run revival of another popular show coming soon, Roseanne. The reboot will feature the original cast of Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman, Lecy Goranson, and Sarah Chalke (who replaced Goranson in later seasons of the show, but she will return as a new character).
Reboots of popular old shows have been all the rage lately for television networks with shows like The Munsters and Charmed making a return to the small screen.
