The work of Bob Dylan has been heavily studied and praised in recent years, including Dylan being the recipient of the Nobel Prize in literature in 2016 and the “will he or won’t he” drama surrounding his acceptance speech.
Now, a piece of his iconic work heads to auction, handwritten lyrics to his 1965 hit Like a Rolling Stone. Auction owner Nate D. Sanders believes this to be only the second time that handwritten lyrics to the song have been on the auction block. An early draft of the song lyrics went to auction at Sotheby’s in 2014 and sold for $2.05 million. At the time, it was thought to be “the only known surviving draft of the final lyrics for this transformative rock anthem.”
Bidding for the lyrics begins at $125,000.
In addition to the lyrics, a signed Blonde on Blonde album is also up for auction. Bidding on that album begins at $5,000.
