Heirs To Prince Estate Furious As Music Moved From Vault

As we await new Prince music from his storied Paisley Park vault, we find out that his heirs aren’t happy with the executors of the estate.

Prince’s half-sisters Norrine and Sharon Nelson are threatening to take legal action against Comerica Bank & Trust after the company moved music from the vault and placed it in a secure site in Los Angeles. The sisters say they were not informed where the music has been stored or why it was removed from Paisley Park at all.

The music collection contains the master tapes of around 30 unreleased albums. The value of the tracks is thought to be around $200M.

Sharon says that she was informed by a Paisley Park representative that about four truckloads of material were removed from the vault early in September.

“We want the music back home in Paisley Park where it belongs,” Sharon told the AP. “It’s just as though Prince passed away again. That’s how I felt. I was really devastated by that.” Norrine blasted the move as “extraordinary and unconscionable,” and saying the pair may take legal action.

Comerica says they simply sought out an expert storage company to keep the audio and video materials well-preserved. They also claim to have spoken with Prince’s heirs about the decision on four separate occasions.

“In an effort to ensure the preservation of Prince’s audio and visual content, Comerica selected the premier entertainment storage and archive company, Iron Mountain Entertainment Services,” a spokesman said in a statement to Billboard magazine. “On four separate occasions, Comerica discussed the process with the heirs and any suggestion otherwise is not accurate.”
